An Emphasis on Safety & Privacy

Today I submitted my FAA waiver application to fly over moving vehicles and pedestrians. In doing so I supplied a wealth of supporting materials showing that safety is the #1 priority for TLT Photography when acquiring aerial data by UAV.

Over the past few weeks I’ve developed a whole set of both safety and privacy protocols. For safety I’ve purchased a high-vis vest to wear identifying me as a remote pilot and asking that I not be disturbed while operating the UAV. I also bought a landing pad to designate the home (launch) location clearly. I’ve also bought 4 stand up caution signs identifying drone operations are underway in the area. These are all steps that I feel will define myself as a professional an distinguish me from other drone pilots who think they can make a quick dime by purchasing a DJI platform.

To address privacy concerns I’ve developed a hand out for anyone interested or concerned about a drone flying near their residences. TLT Photography adheres to the “Voluntary Best Practices for UAS Privacy, Transparency and accountability” established by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA). These best practices define what is appropriate and respectful for drone operations, not just what the FAA defines as Legal.

I’ve also designed a template which shows the details of job I fly including the purpose, a map of the location and contact info for myself or any partners I’m working with so that if anyone has concerns they can reach us and we can address them in a timely fashion.
