BIM User Group Presentation

Today I had the pleasure of presenting for the PDX BIM user group at the WeWork Custom House in downtown Portland.  I had contacted this group because of my interest in networking with BIM professionals in the area.  I am well versed in geospatial data processing software and GIS but I am still very new to understanding the CAD software world of architects and engineers involved with construction.  I thought this would be a wonderful opportunity for me to meet people that I may be able to complete some proof of concepts with in order to help me better understand their needs and how to integrate the products I produce into their work flows.

Because it had snowed a few inches the night before there wasn’t a big turnout but the professionals that did show up were exactly what I was looking for!  One was a 20yr veteran of the REVIT software that nearly every construction companies utilizes.  Two others were from SXD, one from PPI which I hope to soon use as my CAD Software vendor and a couple professionals from local construction companies.  I presented after Josh Plager gave his first public presentation of his work on BIM Earth, a new way to connect people through places.

I had brought my Phantom 4 Pro along and had it out on the table during my presentation.  I got a lot of great questions and as usual we had a great conversation about the legal use of drones and how the laws are quickly changing.   Logan from BEVEL showed up as well whom I had met the previous summer at a VR Presentation I gave.  Great guy and on the cutting edge of VR in the workplace.

Looking forward to getting help from, and collaborating with my new connections. 🙂  And thanks to Fanny Angeles for setting up and PPI for sponsoring!
