Today I flew a very long roadway for Century West Engineering. I took off, kept the drone at about 150 feet and followed it on foot as I walked down the side of the road keeping it to the side of the roadway. The roadway had a lot of elevation change so I had to fly manually instead of the pre-programmed route I had created the night before. Unfortunately, the drone bases it’s elevation from the takeoff point so if I took off and set it at 150ft flying height but the road drops 300ft the drone would end up flying illegally at 400ft by the end of the road… hence me taking control during the flight. Everything went well and I only had one local couple nicely ask what I was up to. I ALWAYS wear a high-viz professional vest so the public knows I’m not there with a drone invading anyone’s privacy.
