I’ve had some bad luck with camera gear over the past couple years. In the Broken Group off Vancouver Island last year I drowned my Panasonic 1″ zoom camera while heading through a sea bridge when a big wave broke over me. Then, at the end of May while rafting the John Day river I failed to cinch my dry bag of camera gear tight enough and Leo sat on it pushing it into the side of the raft and underwater. There goes my new D850 and two professional lenses. All told, that disaster cost me $1500 and I was stupid enough to not have my gear insured then. Never again will I make that mistake. Because of all this I decided that I needed a really good “bridge” camera again. One that had a great zoom, had good weather sealing, and was light weight so I could leave my heavy D850 and 600mm lens at home (saving almost 8 lbs). I decided on the the RX10 Mach IV and couldn’t be happier. It’s maiden trip was the rugged coastline of Olympic National Park. I think it did pretty darn good!
